This country needs entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, there are only few people interested in entrepreneurship. The sentence was made by Minister of State Enterprises (2007-2009), Sofyan A. Djalil, on the confermentt night of the Wirausaha Mandiri Award 2008 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), dated December 3, 2008. This event was also attended by Vice President (2004 - 2009) Jusuf Kalla, the representative member of the House of Representatives Commission VI and XI, a team of judges as well as the Rector of the State and Private Universities from Jakarta.

Listed among the 1057 participants from 198 students and graduted student of the  state and private universities from 24 provinces in Indonesia, participating the Wirausaha Mandiri Awards program. This amount is much improved compared to the year 2007. Participants were divided into two categories namely category of Under Graduate Students and Diploma Program and the Category of Graduate Student and Alumni. Participants undergo a selection process in eight cities namely Medan, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Bandung, Makassar, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Jakarta in cooperation with the state and private universitites.

After a series of selection of 30 finalists selected from two categories of awards to follow the deliberations of national level in Jakarta on October 29, 2008. Before undergoing the process of judging the national level, the finalists included in the debriefing of a business workshop entitled "How to Become a Billionare Entrepreneurial Mindset."

Three winners are chosen from each category get a trophy, a plaque of appreciation and cash prizes totaling USD 120 million and entrepreneurship assistenace through the Partnership Program and Community Development (PKBL) Mandiri Bank.
